Amaya Mckenzie
Operations Coordinator
Based in Kalamazoo, MI, Amaya Mckenzie works to uplift the arts and share the power of movement. Amaya obtained her BBA in Digital Marketing from Western Michigan University in 2021 with a minor in Dance. She is currently an Arts Administrator at Wellspring—a nationally respected modern dance company and dance school, and a 200 hr. certified yoga instructor at Kalamazoo Backyard Yogis—a yoga and wellness space for community empowerment and meaningful connection.
Amaya has a wide range of nonprofit and performing arts experience, including performing and choreographing with local companies such as Movement Reservoir and Breakin’ Ballet, along with bookkeeping and administrative work with the Kalamazoo Chinese Academy. To further her development in dance education, Amaya has taken DEEA’s (Dance Education Equity Association) BE COURAGEOUS training and EFA’s Aesthetic Immersion training, and attended the NDEO (National Dance Education Organization) conference in Detroit, MI. With a strong foundation of administrative experience, including over five years of running festival operations at RADFest by Wellspring, Amaya provides an open-minded and inclusive approach to sharing movement with students and audiences alike.
