Amaya Mckenzie

Amaya Mckenzie is a marketing professional and creative based in Kalamazoo, MI. Amaya obtained her BBA in Digital Marketing from Western Michigan University in 2021 with a minor in Dance. She is currently an Arts Administrator at Wellspring, a nationally respected modern dance company and dance school, and a certified yoga instructor at Kalamazoo Backyard Yogis, a yoga and wellness space for community empowerment and meaningful connection. 

Amaya has a wide range of nonprofit and performing arts experience, including performing and choreographing with local companies such as Movement Reservoir and Breakin’ Ballet, as well as bookkeeping and administrative work with the Kalamazoo Chinese Academy. To further her development in dance education, Amaya has taken DEEA’s (Dance Education Equity Association) BE COURAGEOUS training and EFA’s Aesthetic Immersion training. She has also attended the NDEO (National Dance Education Organization) conference in Detroit, MI. With a strong foundation of administrative, event planning, and patron-facing experience, including over five years of festival operations at RADFest by Wellspring, Amaya provides an open-minded and inclusive approach to sharing movement with students and audiences alike. She hopes to uplift the arts as essential education and share the power of movement with all.
