Wellspring Performs "Classic Kite Tails" for LCI Workshops

Wellspring will be peforming for the Lincoln Center Institute National Educator Workshops hosted be KRESA's Education for the Arts. Wellspring will perform Erick Hawkins' beautiful masterpiece "Classic Kite Tails" (1972) which will be presented as a work-of-art to be studied by this year's LCI workshop participants.

"Classic Kite Tails" will be performed with the original costumes and sets on loan from The Library of Congress. Special thanks to Katherine Duke and the Erick Hawkins Dance Foundation for permission to perform "Classic Kite Tails" and to Jeffery Harkins and EFA for inviting Wellspring to present at this year's LCI workshops.

Wellspring/Cori Terry & Dancers is southwest Michigan's only professional modern dance company. Founded in 1981 by dancer and choreographer, Cori Terry, Wellspring presents performances featuring works choreographed by Ms. Terry, Artistic Associate Michael Miller and guest artists.

This extraordinary company of poetic and athletic dancers is committed to revealing the language of modern dance to adults and children alike. Critics have called Wellspring's work "dramatic," "impassioned," "seamless," "compelling," "exuberant" and "life-affirming." Located in the state-of-the-art Wellspring Theater in downtown Kalamazoo's Epic Center, Wellspring offers performances, classes and community engagement programs sharing the art form of modern dance.

The company performs in two annual series, the Fall Concert of Dance and the Spring Concert of Dance.  Wellspring showcases regional choreographers in the annual Dance Forum and presents works of national and international guest artists possessing diverse modern dance styles through the Alternative Dance Project .  The company also tours, conducting performances, lecture/demonstrations and master classes.

The company has a deeply rooted commitment to providing dance education and arts engagement programs for diverse audiences.  Community Engagement Through Dance programming offers fun learning experiences for people of all ages with a strong focus on working with underserved audiences.

New Employee at Wellspring

Wellspring welcomes Amanda Cooke as she takes on the position of Operations Assistant. Amanda is a WMU alumna and former employee of Wellspring. She returns to Kalamazoo after dancing with professional dance company Detroit Dance Collective. Welcome back , Amanda.
